2008 COOS BAY EXHIBIT

Artists who participated in the 2003 Maritime Exhibit on the steps of the Museum
From Dutch Mostert, Region 5 Representative
Spring is here and it’s time to start thinking about the Annual Maritime Art Exhibit at the Coos Art Museum in Coos Bay, Oregon. Preparations have been made to celebrate the 15th year of our event at the museum, and it looks promising to be the best exhibit yet.
As in the past, the show is open to all artists who enjoy painting the maritime scene, even though this year for the first time, it will be an officially ASMA sanctioned event. Although previous exhibiting participants were mostly from the ASMA artist rank and file, we decided to keep it an open event as a way to introduce ASMA to other marine artists not familiar with our Society, and to make sure that we put on the best possible annual Maritime Art Exhibit by not excluding artists just because they’re not members yet!
From its very inception, the first goal of this event is to be the Premier annual Maritime Art Exhibit on the West Coast, and a close second is to have this be a truly artist-friendly event, where we as artists and appreciators of the maritime scene can come together to see old friends and meet new ones, to paint, to see some fine art and enjoy the beautiful Oregon Coast. I think we’re well on our way to achieving our first goal and if you should happen to ask one of the artists who has attended one (or more) of our opening week-ends, they’ll tell you what a great time we all have. We normally average between 20-25 participant artists, some actually planning their vacations around this event year after year!
As you’re reading this, the prospectus is still a few weeks away from being mailed to ASMA members, but can be seen and downloaded from the museum’s website, Coos Bay Museum.
